The Aztecs grabbed hold of the lead early against the Rams and never looked back. This SDSU team looked like complete polar opposites of the team that showed up to play in Fresno just one week ago. They just managed to scrape by the 10-17 Bulldogs in that bout, scoring only 45 points. However against CSU, the Aztecs were firing on all cylinders with several role players stepping up in performance.
It was just one of those nights where nothing could go right for the Rams. Colorado State entered the game only winning 3 out of their last 10 games and played like it on Tuesday night. SDSU managed to shut down the star CSU guard Isaiah Stevens to just 4 points in the first half which was key in shutting down the whole offense and morale of the team early on. SDSU also received some luck from the referees as well when one of them bumped into Isaiah Stevens, causing him to fall and turnover the ball late in the first half.
SDSU displayed why they have the premier depth in the Mountain West with Micah Parrish, Jaedon LeDee, and Aguek Arop combining for 35 points off the bench. Darrion Trammell also looked comfortable, scoring 11 points with 5 assists in a performance Aztecs fans have been waiting on. If these players can execute like they did tonight, it will significantly help the team down the stretch, especially in March. The only question is… Which SDSU team will show up once the tournament comes around?
Colorado State will head back home to play a struggling Wyoming squad on Friday(2/24). San Diego State will turn their focus to the New Mexico Lobos, who previously handed the Aztecs their only home loss of the season in January. They will certainly find themselves in a tough and hostile environment in the Pit.
